Here's one of my dearest sculptures, My "Red Hat Society" Gal. I just love her, but she whispered to me that it's getting rather boring here in the studio and she's a traveling kinda gal. She's got her little handbag all packed with her "necessaries", a fresh perm and her red ball hi-top sneakers laced up tight (as any experienced traveler...knows you have to think comfort first when you're on the road) I'm hopeful that she may be chosen to appear in the new Lark book about beads. Her picture was submitted, but it's hard to say what they're looking for. She may be famous someday if she makes the book! I doubt that it will go to her head though, she's pretty down to earth.
Sold! She's going to live with another beadmaker, who assured me that she'll be well taken care of and admired...as any lady with her keen sense of style should be!
Here's one that's not a special but I'm thinking of possibly putting her into an auction. My favorite part of her is her high topped red sneaker with Bobby Sox.
Just can't decide if I can sell her or not!
She was inspired by a poem that has touched the hearts and spirits of so many women..I'll add it below her pictures

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . . There's more but this gives the general idea
Here's the Latest Bunny, fresh from the torch! I think she's the best yet! Her name is Constance Merryweather Whiskers. She's all dressed up in her fanciest dress and matching hat, ready to start an exciting trip to spend Easter vacation with her Grandma. She was goign to be brave and leave Elsie home now that she's such a big bunny, but she decided at the last minute to bring her along, After all Elsi has been her very favorite doll since she was a baby, and poor Elsie would probably be lonely if she didn't get to go along to Grandmas too! Hmmmm...maybe Grandma would show her how to make Elsie a dress while she's there.
As you can probably tell I get way too involved with some of my favorite sculptures! They each have a story to tell and each one is different.
Constance is about 2 and 1/4 inches tall. I tried to show her from all angles, but one thing I didn't show is the little pink pads on the soles of her feet...I mean paws.
She's available for immediate purchase...no numbers no auctions!

She's sold and will be leaving for the exciting trip to her wonderful new home.... to join one of her cousins who already lives there!

Mary Catherine Elizabeth
Mary Catherine Elizabeth is a very special bunny, all dressed up in her best dress, ready to hop onto the school bus for her very first day of Kindergarten. She's just glanced over her shoulder for a last reassuring smile from Mamma bunny and is ready to begin her great adventure at school!
I was really pleased with the way this little cutie came out and have had her in the shop for about a year, perched right near my torch (some of these little critters are hard to part with and I like to enjoy them before I send them off to new homes) When I took her picture I discovered that her close-up photo revealed a tiny crack in the purple trim on the hem of her dress. Since I had her for so long with no problems and can't see the crack ...even with my magnifying visor on, I'm quite sure that it's not something that will affect her longevity, however I can't sell her as first quality now that I know that she has a defect. I thought I'd offer her for a discounted price and maybe someone who would use her gently and doesn't mind that she's less than perfect.... would like to get a sculpture for a bargain price.
She is about 1 and 5/8 inches tall

Bunny Bead Hugger #91 ................ Bear Bead Hugger #67
Bead Huggers... Each Bead is a separate Special !!!
A simply adorable lavender bunny hugging tightly to an Easter Egg that's almost bigger than he is! This is one of the smallest sculptures I've ever done, and I'm really pleased with the results. I found out that the smaller the sculpture the more difficult it is to keep the details from melting as you work.
The egg is just 10 mm tall and the bunny is about 14 mm tall
A tiny blue bear, doing his best to give a real "bear hug" to this little cased bead. The Bead is about 8 mm tall by 12 mm in diameter and the bear is about 11 mm tall

Here's the newest "critter" in the bunny family. Her name is Alicia Suzette and she's wearing a little periwinkle sundress trimmed with roses and pink satin & tied with a little pink bow in the back, and ribbons and roses decorate her head band as well. She's dressed for an outing to pet the baby animals at the Children's Petting Zoo, one of her very favorite places. Little Alicia Suzette is having so much fun cuddling this little duckling that I'm sure she's going to try to convince her mother to let her take him home, but I'll bet that Mom will wisely substitute a fuzzy little stuffed duckie to bring home and promise to return often for visits with her new friend.

This is a "geode" style bead that I made for a charity auction called Hands for Hope
It's something that came from a session at the torch where I just let all the events and emotions of the last couple weeks since the tragic attack come to the surface and do the designing.
As always the act of creation has proven to be cathartic and a step toward healing for me,
as is the "gifting" of that creation to a worthy cause. I pray that our country and all
the people affected by the tragedy can start to heal as well.

 Steven Tyler Amulet Bead
Sold! Sort of
Just a word of explanation. One of my customers, a very generous and kind hearted spirit,
offered to make the donation to Habitat for the bead but wanted me to keep it for myself
since it was a special bead with such an unsual and personal beginning. I am totally overwhelmed! Nearly speechless! Good Karma vibes have been bouncing all around my shop ever since I got the email. There are so many wonderful people in the beading world!
I still can't believe it! Thanks Vicki! You're the best!
This is a special bead with a lot of layers and
depth, hidden pockets of swirls, colors and sparkle, and one that has a very
strange beginning. Here's the story of how it came to be created. While I'm
not the biggest Aerosmith fan out there, I like their music and admire the
contribution thay've made to their community. That said, a couple months ago I
woke in the quite hours before dawn in the grips of an amazing dream. I was
at the torch creating a bead with Steven Tyler, the lead singer for Aerosmith,
perched on a stool, peering over my shoulder (wearing a pair of those ugly black
protective glasses of course) and totally excited about being involved with the
creation of a bead that was quite unlike any others I've ever made. It was one
of those amazingly clear dreams! Directions were being fired out as fast as I
could melt the glass! "Add more red over there.... how about some of that silver
leaf on that spot...now twist it in the middle.... shape it like a big diamond"!
He was physced and wasn't timid about letting me know what he wanted to
see! As soon as I woke up I went straight to the torch to attempt to recreate
the bead, and by the time the sun was rising this bead was ready to put into the
kiln. The style, color and shape is totally different from any I've ever been
tempted to make on my own. The overall effect is very big, bold and masculine.
it was quite an experience and I wonder every time I look at it if Steven ever
has memories of a crazy dream where he was directing the creation of a custom
bead. The creative process is a strange, mysterious and wonderful thing!
Since I feel I owe the creation of this bead to the influences (somehow, on
some subconscious level,) to someone else, I've planned to donate the proceeds
that this bead brings to a charity that that I know the members of Arosmith have
made major contributions to in the past, Habitat to Humanity. The bead
measures about 26 mm tall, 26 mm across the center and 12 mm thick, with a large
hole so that it can be strung on a leather cord or used in a design with hemp or
multiple cords. It would also be great threaded on a sturdy silver ball chain.

SOLD!
My very first "special"!!! I've been
working on this geode design, fussing around with it since last spring about
this time, and I thought it was the perfect piece to offer as my first
special! I've loved stones ever since my first trip to the Mammoth Caves
when I was about 4 years old. I brought home a little jar of stones and
treasured them till they mysteriously disappeared one day. Of course none of
my pack of little brothers knew anything about the disappearance of my
precious collection of stones! LOL! Probably they were just the right touch
for a super highway they were constructing
Nevertheless, I still love
stones and geodes particularly fascinate me, so I just had to try making one
in glass. This one has tiny chips of real Citron lining the cavity and
though it's difficult to see in the scan, you can see right through the
glass into the interior of the bead. I love the idea of mixing a little of
the natural stone with the glass. Their energy seems to compliment and
even intensify one another. If you're onto stones, you'll know what I
mean.
There is a layer of gold leaf and real mica incorporated into
the glass and the surface is striated in natural stony colors and layered
with mica and reduction frit. The outside has a very rough texture and the
bead hole shows up in the scan as a cloudy line, slightly visible when you
see it in person, but I think it shows more in the scan.
I've
written a volume about this bead! I hadn't intended to but it's one that's
very special to me and I hope it gets a good response from it's official
"unveiling" here on the web site.
The geode beads are still in the
process of development so I'd love to hear any comments or thoughts about it
even if it doesn't tempt you to purchase one.
